St. J’s Halloween Event Committee Continuing Festivities With New Leader

ST JOHNSBURY — Plans to continue an annual community Halloween celebration are underway this year with a new person leading the charge.

Main Street resident Matt Taylor is taking over as Halloween committee chair, replacing Diane Cummings, who helped originate the event and served as chair for more than 10 years. The committee is composed of neighbors, and in partnership with the town, they organize and run the celebration, which draws thousands of people to a closed-off section of Main Street each year.

October 31 falls on a Saturday this year, which could bring an even bigger crowd of costumed celebrants, Taylor said.

No matter what day of the week Halloween falls on, he said, there are big crowds every year, even if it rains. “We get on average, around 6,000 people plus,” he said. In speaking with Discover St. Johnsbury Director Gillian Sewake, he said he learned the Halloween celebration is the biggest single-event attendance draw of the year in town.

Boston currently with a 99% chance to make the playoffs as they just try to build some momentum as they head towards October.

The North Country Falcon Boys Soccer team took down Thetford Academy on Tuesday by a score of 1-0 to remain undefeated on the season. The Falcon boys will host BFA St. Albans on Thursday.

The Lake Region boys soccer team earned their first win of the year on Tuesday with a 3-0 win over Spaulding. The Ranger boys will host Montpellier on Friday. Kick off at 6pm.
