Through his newly-acquired attorney from Burlington
Through his newly-acquired attorney from Burlington, Scott Mason told the court that now is not the time for him to fight for his release from jail while his attempted murder case proceeds. Mason, 37, is accused of shooting St. Johnsbury Police Capt. Jason Gray on Dec. 13 inside a Portland Street apartment building. Charges of first degree attempted murder, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with serious bodily injury, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, using a deadly weapon to commit a crime and unlawful mischief were filed against Mason for his alleged criminal behavior. The charge of unlawful mischief is a result of Mason reportedly damaging a State Police drone that had been used to surveil the area when Mason was being sought in a 33-hour manhunt. Mason is currently being held at Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport. He has been in jail since state police arrested and processed him early in the morning on Dec. 15.
