Unofficial Results Show Sheriff Thrailkill Re-elected
CALEDONIA COUNTY — Unofficial results from most of the towns in the county sheriff’s race show the incumbent winning by a wide margin.
With nine out of 17 towns reporting results as of 9 p.m., Sheriff Brandon Thrailkill surpassed challenger Robert Gerrish’s vote total in every town, including the largest towns in the county, Lyndon and St. Johnsbury.
In St. Johnsbury, Thrailkill received 279 votes compared to 126 for Gerrish. The Lyndon totals show Thrailkill with 305 votes and Gerrish with 118 votes. The total count of the nine towns voting was 936 for Thrailkill and 355 for Gerrish.
The sheriff’s race was the only county-wide contest in the Northeast Kingdom. Both Thrailkill and Gerrish ran as Republicans.
Thrailkill has been sheriff since replacing James Hemond, who died in March 2025. Both Thrailkill and Gerrish sought the appointment to finish Hemond’s term, and Gov. Phil Scott chose Thrailkill to finish the term.
Both actively campaigned for the position in this year’s election.
