Vermont State Police Seek Tips in Route 5A Hit and Run

In Brownington, a Derby man was seriously injured in a hit-and-run Saturday night on Vermont Route 5A. State Police say 64-year-old Rickey Laprade was struck by a vehicle around 9:15 p.m., just minutes after authorities received multiple calls about a car driving erratically in the area. Laprade had parked his vehicle in the northbound lane and exited into the southbound lane when he was hit by a vehicle heading south. The driver did not remain at the scene. Laprade was transported to North Country Hospital and later transferred to UVM Medical Center, where he remains in serious condition. Police say he showed signs of impairment and was processed for DUI. Debris collected at the scene suggests the suspect vehicle is a black 2015 to 2017 Subaru WRX or STI. It likely has damage on the passenger-side front bumper, wheel well, and mirror. Anyone with information is urged to contact Trooper Anthony Rice at the Derby barracks.
