Kevin Croteau, 29, of Barton, was taken into custody
Kevin Croteau, 29, of Barton, was taken into custody on numerous charges as a result of an alleged late-night incident on March 5 at the Circle K store on Main Street in Barton. Vermont State Police were notified at about 11:57 p.m. of a crash at the Circle K. It was reported a truck involved had fled the scene. Troopers from the Derby barracks developed probable cause that Croteau engaged in fighting and tumultuous behavior in the parking lot with other people who were present at the fuel pumps. After an alleged fight, Police say Croteau retreated to his truck, where he allegedly attempted to hit or run over Ronald Morin, 50, of Barton. Police say Croteau then intentionally drove his truck into a truck belonging to Travis Dopp, 30, of Barton, which was parked at the gas pumps, pinning Jammie Cassidy, 34, of Glover, between the truck she was fueling and the gas pump. Croteau then allegedly fled. Cassidy was taken by a relative to North Country Hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police say Croteau’s license to drive was criminally suspended, and he violated active court-ordered conditions of release. A deputy with the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department located Croteau as a passenger in a car and took him into custody. Croteau was processed and ordered jailed for lack of bail. He was cited to be in Orleans Superior Court on March 8 on charges of aggravated assault, crashes – duty to stop, grossly negligent operation, unlawful mischief, aggravated disorderly conduct, violation of conditions of release, and operating after suspension or revocation of license – criminal DLS.
