Jay Peak Reports Drop in Canadian Visitors Amid Tariff Concerns
Jay Peak says the threat of tariffs and reduced U.S. border crossing hours have taken a bite out of the area’s Canadian visitor numbers. The resort says they saw some immediate cancellations after President Trump’s tariff talks last month and Canadian officials’ response suggesting that Canadians stick to spending money locally. It certainly could impact both our top and bottom lines here and the top and bottom lines of all businesses here in the Northeast Kingdom that rely on Canadian traffic for their well-being,” said Jay Peak’s Steve Wright. He says he’s hoping to see bookings increase again as the rhetoric on both sides cools.
