Vermont to Begin Rabies Bait Drop Next Week to Combat Rising Cases Statewide

A statewide effort to stop the spread of rabies in Vermont will begin next week. For the third year in a row, state wildlife and health officials are teaming up to carry out bait drops. On Monday, about 350,000 oral rabies vaccine baits will be dropped in parts of Chittenden, Lamoille, Franklin and Grand Isle counties. They’re shaped like ravioli and are not harmful to people or pets. But if you see one, leave it alone so it can be eaten by wildlife. The bait drops come amid an ongoing rise in rabies over the past several years.
