Migrant Justice Leader and Stepdaughter Detained by Border Patrol in Richford
Activist group Migrant Justice said Border Patrol detained one of its leaders, and his stepdaughter during a traffic stop in Richford. According to Migrant Justice, Border Patrol pulled over Jose Ignacio De La Cruz and his stepdaughter Heidy Perez on Route 105 in Richford Saturday afternoon. The group says agents smashed the car window and detained the two community leaders. The group says they are both now at risk of imminent deportation. De La Cruz and Perez are being held at the Richford Border Patrol barracks. Several people protested outside the barracks Saturday afternoon in response. Migrant Justice says the two have not been allowed to speak with their attorneys, and ICE hasn’t provided any information, so the next steps are unclear. The organization says attorneys are prepared an emergency filing for federal district court.
