Milan man indicted on charges connected to officer-involved shooting

A Coos County grand jury handed up three indictments against a Milan man charged by police with attempting to harm a Berlin police officer when the two officers responded to a call for service at a home in Milan.

Zachary Gagne is charged with allegedly criminally threatening a Berlin police officer who went to the man’s home to investigate a caller’s request to remove Gagne from a Milan residence on West Milan Road.

Berlin police Corporal Jason Silva fired his revolver when Gagne was asked to put down the knife he allegedly held in his hand and did not. Gagne was struck and injured.

The August indictments note Gagne on May 21 allegedly committed criminal threatening by moving toward on-duty uniformed police officer Silva with a knife pointed in Silva’s direction. Gagne also is charged with allegedly committing reckless conduct by moving toward the police officer with a “knife at the ready in his hand.”

A third indictment states on July 18, 2012, Gagne was convicted in Coos County Superior Court on a Class B felony charge of criminal threatening. The charge is for Gagne being a convicted felon in possession of a deadly weapon.
