A 44-year-old South Korean national previously deported from the US in 2006, has been re-detained
Jae Woong Yoo, a 44-year-old South Korean national previously deported from the US in 2006, has been re-detained in Orleans County under an alias, Jaewood Lyu. Prior to his deportation, Yoo had been convicted for crimes including kidnapping for ransom, robbery, and illegal firearm possession. His reappearance in the US was detected when Customs and Border Protection officers grew suspicious of a car attempting to cross the border. The vehicle was driven by Soo Ho “Lance” Cho, a naturalized US citizen, also of South Korean origin. Yoo, located in the backseat of the car, was identified through his Korean passport. Due to his status as an illegal immigrant and risk of flight, Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul J. Van de Graaf is seeking Yoo’s detention pending trial.
