A driver died from injuries suffered in a head-on crash on the Island Pond Road

A driver died from injuries suffered in a head-on crash on the Island Pond Road in Newark on Thursday night. Vermont State Police identified the deceased driver as Ian Cunningham, 54, of Walden.  According to the police report, Cunningham was driving a 2008 Toyota Tacoma north when the Tacoma crossed into the opposite lane of travel and crashed head-on into a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Rene Morse, 32, of Charleston. Emergency services learned about the crash at about 8:40 p.m.  Sgt. Joshua Mikkola noted that Morse suffered significant injuries but they are not considered life-threatening. He was taken to North Country Hospital and later transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Two passengers in the Tacoma, Marvin Johnson, 41, and Mackenzie Kirby, 26, both of Walden, were also badly hurt. They were hospitalized and remain in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation, and anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Sgt.
