A local man on probation for killing a Lyndon teacher
A local man on probation for killing a Lyndon teacher in 2000 admitted in court on Monday that he violated a probationary condition, but he received no penalty as a consequence. Scott Favreau, 41, of Newport, tampered with an electronic monitoring bracelet last month that he is required to wear as part of the conditions of probation ordered upon his release from prison in 2019.
Such a violation could have meant a return to prison, but Caledonia State’s Attorney Jessica Zaleski said no punishment is necessary because, for the most part, he’s following the rules that allow for his freedom. She asked that his record simply reflect that he admitted a violation of his probation. Zaleski said Favreau has already spent many years in prison. He was 17 years old when he shot and killed Vicki Campbell-Beer, his foster mother, at their West Burke home.
Mr. Favreau stated that his GPS strap was too tight, so he had his significant other’s daughter help him by stretching the strap with pliers. Favreau, who has been representing himself in the violation of probation case was asked by Judge Michael Kainen on Monday what his response was to the state’s offer. He said, “It’s a good resolution, I think.” The judge agreed saying it’s “A very good resolution considering you have a considerable amount of time hanging over your head.”
