Alaina Bouchard, 35, West Glover, was ordered held without bail
Alaina Bouchard, 35, West Glover, was ordered held without bail at her Orleans Superior Court arraignment on Monday. She pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, reckless endangerment and criminal threatening. She is accused of firing a pistol in the direction of Jordan Labounty, 35, of Lyndon Center, who was reportedly in his 2017 Dodge Ram truck about to leave Bouchard’s driveway on Bean Hill Road. Vermont State Police reported finding bullet holes in the truck and a “projectile lodged in the center of the windshield.” An investigation by Trooper Anthony Rice established that Bouchard and Labounty met online, and Labounty was visiting Bouchard on Friday night. It was about 9:30 p.m. when he arrived, and “the two spent time talking with one another inside while drinking alcohol. According to Labounty, “Bouchard made a comment that when people see her out with her children they don’t approach her because one of her children is Hispanic and another is African American.” Labounty reportedly told her that “Aryan’ people like him don’t like ‘people like that’ in Vermont.” He said he believed Bouchard “interpreted” what he said “as he did not want minorities in Vermont when that was not his intention.” Labounty told the trooper that he decided to leave. As he went to turn the truck’s ignition, he heard “pop, pop, pop” and that his rear window had shattered. He said he then drove away “at a high rate of speed.” Bouchard reportedly told the trooper that she did shoot at Labounty but “wasn’t trying to hurt him.” The judge ordered Bouchard to jail without bail at least until a hearing today when further arguments can be made to justify Bouchard’s release from jail while she awaits resolution of the charges.
