Catamount Arts closed after toxic chemicals were discovered in air samples during an expansion project
Catamount Arts in St. Johnsbury closed after toxic chemicals were discovered in air samples during an expansion project. The toxic chemicals known as TCE and PCE, commonly linked to dry cleaning and degreasing solvents, can increase cancer risk. Jody Fried, the organization’s executive director, affirmed they’re conducting further tests and devising an action plan. The building, formerly a Masonic lodge and a community mainstay since 1912, is among several local historical buildings with this issue. Despite the closure, Catamount Arts will ensure their summer series is ready for the community while further testing continues.
