Checking on a man asleep led police to crack cocaine and a pistol

Checking on a man asleep in the driver’s seat of a pickup parked beneath the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge on Friday morning led police to crack cocaine and a pistol. Dakota Mcallister, 24, was arrested by Cpl. George Johnson after he responded to a report that a man was asleep in a truck on Weeks Court beneath the bridge. The corporal wrote “I approached the truck and observed Dakota McAllister deep asleep in the driver’s seat and a plastic baggy that contained white powder in small clumps sitting on top of the center console in plain view.” Cpl. Johnson said it took several attempts to wake Mcallister. Also, in the area of the center console was a 9 mm pistol, reported Cpl. Johnson. Charges against Mcallister are cocaine possession, possession of a firearm while committing a felony and violation of release conditions. He was cited and told to appear in Caledonia Superior Court on June 26.
