Essex Junction Man Killed by Freight Train Late Tuesday Police Investigating Incident
Police say a Vermont man died after he was hit by a train late Tuesday night. It happened in Essex Junction on the railroad tracks between Main and Maple streets. Investigators say at about 11:35 p.m., a southbound New England Central Railroad freight train pulling 83 cars hit Shiloh Malzac, 44, of Essex Junction, causing deadly injuries. The train engineer was unaware that the man had been hit, and the train continued on. Essex police were called to the scene at about 4:20 a.m. for a man found dead on the railroad tracks. Malzac’s body was taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. Railroad Street was closed for more than three hours while investigators processed the scene. The school district was notified and advised students and families to avoid the area on Wednesday morning. Police say New England Central Railroad was notified and is cooperating with the investigation.
