Governor Scott urges tax cuts to ease burden and attract workers
Governor Phil Scott is calling on lawmakers to take action this session to reduce tax burdens on Vermonters. Scott is pushing for measures that would lower the Social Security tax, expand the child tax credit, and exempt military pensions and survivor benefits from taxation. He believes these changes could help attract retirees who still want to work. “This is preventing that population where we need workers desperately, people who want to start another career. Bring along TRICARE, as well. I think it’s a benefit. It’s a win-win for all of us,” said Scott, R-Vermont. Currently, Vermont is one of only five states that does not offer a military tax exemption. There is no set timeline for when the bill will be brought up for a vote in the House.
