Jury selection began Wednesday in a Chittenden County courtroom

Jury selection began Wednesday in a Chittenden County courtroom in the trial of a Vermont man accused of brutally murdering his wife on their anniversary camping trip. The case dates back to October 2021 when Ferlazzo and his wife, Emily, left New Hampshire to spend their one year wedding anniversary in Vermont. Ferlazzo eventually returned to Emily’s parent’s property without her. Ferlazzo originally told Emily’s parents that the two got into an argument in Bolton and she walked away from the van. However, prosecutors say he confessed to police that he grabbed a handgun from a cabinet, got on top of Emily, and shot her twice. Prosecutors say after the shooting, Ferlazzo dismembered her body, leaving her remains in trash bags inside their camper. Police later found the camper with the remains still inside outside a home in St. Albans. The trial is expected to begin Friday. Prosecutors have said they expect it to last two and a half weeks.
