Newport Police Chief Travis Bingham announced that the Newport Police Department arrested a man on multiple sexual offenses involving a child. Daniel Rielly, 66, of Lowell, is facing charges of Sexual Assault, Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, and Lewd and Lascivious Conduct with a Child. In September 2023, police received allegations that a man, later determined to be Rielly, had sexually assaulted a child in Newport Center multiple times over a number of years, say police. Based on an extensive police investigation, which included an interview with Rielly, Newport Police arrested Rielly on Friday, April 12. Rielly is currently held at the Northern State Correctional Facility on $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday, April 15, at Orleans County Superior Courthouse, Criminal Division.
