Palestinian Student Mohsen Mahdawi Graduates from Columbia Amid Ongoing Immigration Case in Vermont

Mohsen Mahdawi, a Palestinian man arrested by federal immigration agents in Vermont, is celebrating his graduation from Columbia University in New York. In his cap and gown, he spoke to a small crowd about his commitment to equality and humanity. “Nor the Trump administration, nor Columbia University, nor any power in this world will stop us from being and continuing to be humans,” Mahdawi said. A U.S. District judge in Vermont released Mahdawi on bail last month while his case plays out in court. Part of his release conditions allowed him to attend his graduation. The Trump administration is challenging his release.
