RuralEdge Launches 218 Million Newport Crossing Project to Add 64 Housing Units

RuralEdge has announced a significant development in Newport’s housing landscape. The nonprofit has secured properties for the $21.8 million Newport Crossing project, aiming to add 64 affordable and mixed-income rental units to the area. This includes converting the historic Sacred Heart Convent into 26 apartments and plans to transform the adjacent high school into 24 condominiums starting next year. In Newport Center, two outdated buildings on Route 105 will be replaced with 14 modern housing units and community spaces, designed to complement the village’s historic character. The project is funded through partnerships with the Vermont Housing Finance Agency, Vermont Housing & Conservation Board, and Vermont Community Development Program.
