Students at North County Union High School in Newport will have an unforgettable first day of school
Students at North County Union High School in Newport will have an unforgettable first day of school next week, kicking off the school year in tents while officials continue to deal with toxic PCBs found in the main building earlier this summer. North Country officials got back PCB test results in July that showed elevated levels in the B-Wing. Six million dollars in remediation later, the results were even worse. So, starting next Tuesday, 700 students will head back to school in spare space at the CCV campus downtown and in six heated tents wired for Wi-Fi and alarms, along with portable toilets. There’s no timeline yet as to when students can return to the classroom in Newport.
