Truck struck the Millers Run covered bridge in Lyndon again

State Police reported that a truck struck the Millers Run covered bridge in Lyndon again on Tuesday just before 7 p.m. The driver from Adelphi, Maryland, reportedly told police he knew the vehicle wouldn’t fit under the bridge but drove through it anyway. The truck damaged a wooden buffer installed to protect the structure. Authorities ticketed the driver, who now faces additional local fines of up to $5,000. Lyndon officials are planning to install steel beams in front of the bridge to prevent access by box trucks, like those used barriers used in parking garages. Lyndon Town Administrator Justin Smith estimated they would be about 40 to 50 feet from each side of the bridge. Efforts to prevent future incidents include notifying box truck rental companies and collaborating with GPS providers to remove the bridge from navigation routes.
