Vermont firefighters are mourning the loss of one of their own

Vermont firefighters are mourning the loss of one of their own. The Chittenden Volunteer Fire Department says that Capt. Charlie Parker died in the line of duty after fighting a barn fire Monday evening. Authorities say crews were called to a barn fire around 5 p.m. They say Parker afterward returned the tanker to the station but was later found unresponsive by a fellow firefighter. Lifesaving efforts began immediately but were unsuccessful. Parker was a member of the department for more than 40 years. Chittenden Asst. Fire Chief Conrad Zeller says the loss will create a big hole within the department and the greater community.
