Vermont Governor Signs Law to Wipe Out 100 Million in Medical Debt for Low Income Residents
Thousands of low-income Vermonters will have their medical debt slashed after the governor signed a bill into law on Thursday. The measure uses a million dollars in one-time funding to eliminate $100 million in medical debt for about 600,000 Vermonters. But in a letter to lawmakers, the governor also expressed concern about future funding for the program. He’s also concerned that the state may be helping to disincentivize repayments.
