Vermont State Police are investigating the possible homicide

Vermont State Police are investigating the possible homicide of three family members at their home on Vermont 133 in Pawlet early Sunday. Police said the names of the victims – believed to be an adult couple and a child – were being withheld pending notification of next of kin in the suspected domestic incident.  No criminal charges had been announced as of early Monday afternoon. No motive has been offered by police. An emergency 911 call was received about 3:45 a.m. for the shooting along the Vermont-New York border – about 25 miles southwest of Rutland City.  The initial call reported a possibly suspicious person, but as Vermont State Police investigators were called out, they found a bloody scene with three bodies in the rural community of about 1,400 residents.  The victims’ bodies will be taken to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for autopsies to determine the cause and manner of death. The initial theory by detectives indicates the crime is an isolated event with no identified threat to the community.
