 Vermont State Police are still investigating a shooting just after 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, at a residence on North Danville Road in Danville, in which one man was killed and a second was injured. Now identified as Wayne Payton, 50, of Danville, who died of a headshot wound. The injured man was identified by police  as Tellurian Surles, 23, of Danville. He remains hospitalized at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in stable condition. Emergency crews responded to the incident at 34 North Danville Road. Two household members became involved in a dispute, and Payton and Surles exchanged gunfire. Payton was killed. Surles was also shot but survived. This investigation is still in its earliest stagesand police will provide updates as the investigation continues.
