On June 14 at approximately 5:30 a.m., the Derby Line Fire Department received a report of a fire at 3262 Route 5 in Derby. Department firefighters upon arrival observed heavy smoke and fire in the attic area of the True Value rental building. Fire suppression efforts were conducted, and the fire was extinguished. There were no reported injuries. As part of Derby Line Fire Chief Craig Ellam’s assessment of the fire, he contacted the Department of Public Safety Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit for assistance in determining the origin and cause of the fire. The structure sustained extensive damage from fire, heat, smoke, and a portion of the structure’s roof had collapsed. The cause of the fire is undetermined. Officials stated the fire does not appear to be the result of a criminal act. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Sgt.
