The Scott administration is proposing new rules

The Scott administration is proposing new rules that would allow Vermonters to try their luck in the state lottery online. Instead of buying state lottery tickets in bricks-and-mortar stores, people could take their chances via phone. If approved by lawmakers, it would add about $7 million to state coffers. Vermont Liquor and Lottery Commissioner Wendy Knight says administering the lottery through the web would help them steer people to problem gambling resources. “It has those built-in safeguards in the app and in the website so if you are playing excessively you may see a pop-up message that triggers and says perhaps you’re playing a bit too much,” Knight said. Other states like Maine, Arizona and Colorado have given the green light to similar laws.
