Vermont Foodbank Fights Tariff Impact on Canadian Produce

Officials at the Vermont Foodbank are working hard to prevent tariffs from adding costs to their network as they strive to keep Vermonters fed. The food bank orders fresh produce weekly from Canada, buying over 2.7 million pounds of food last year from a farm that also partners with 35 U.S. food banks. CEO John Sayles says a 25% tariff would add between $120,000 and $170,000 in costs, but they’re exploring waivers and other options to mitigate the impact. The food bank assures food shelves and pantries that they’re doing everything they can to minimize the effect of these potential costs.
