Freya Thompson has been charged with unlawful sheltering of a runaway child, contributing to delinquency, and false information to a police officer. Thompson, 19, of Newport, pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charges on Tuesday and was released on conditions by Judge Justin Jiron. On Oct. 26, Newport Police Officer Colin Sykes responded to Cynthia Bennett, 35, who told police her 14-year-old daughter was missing after not returning home from school. Bennett told police her daughter could be living with Freya Thompson and Crispin Wild, 18, in Newport. Police then conducted an investigation and checked the suspected residence more than once. “Officers Keithan and Guyer again went back to Crispin and Freya’s residence and were able to locate the juvenile inside the apartment,” wrote Ofc. Sykes. The juvenile said that she stayed with Crispin and Freya and played video games and was smoking marijuana the entire time she was there. Police then asked Freya and Crispin when the juvenile had arrived at their residence. Crispin told police that she had gotten there the same night she was found there, approximately an hour before. Thompson faces a possible sentence of over three years in prison and $3,500 in fines.
