A 35-year-old St. Johnsbury man allegedly took his mothers car and sold it to a metal recycling company

A 35-year-old St. Johnsbury man allegedly took his mother’s car and sold it to a metal recycling company. Christopher Briggs, pleaded not guilty in Court to a charge of felony aggravated operation without the owner’s consent. On Sept. 11, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Joanne Lawson, 59, went to the St. Johnsbury Police Department to complain that she had let her son Christopher Briggs and his girlfriend Brittany MacDougall, 30, borrow her vehicle – a 2006 Chevrolet Aveo – but never returned it.  Briggs stated that the car is at Allard’s Metal Recycling and that he will be attempting to buy it back. Ofc. Johnson then called Daniel Allard, who is the owner of Allard’s Metal Recycling, located at 260 Hill Street in Lyndon. Briggs faces a possible sentence of up to five years in prison and a $2,000 fine.
