An adult female was found dead in the drivers seat of a Cadillac

An adult female was found dead in the driver’s seat of a Cadillac that crashed off the driveway of the Cornerstone School on Portland Street on Tuesday evening. The vehicle had with a bullet hole in the windshield. Village police were joined by members of Vermont State Police at the scene about 6 p.m. A man who was driving by the school noticed the car crashed off the driveway. He called police after he checked the car and saw the dead woman inside and the bullet hole. Investigation at the scene revealed a .22 caliber bullet on the driveway near the location of the Cadillac and a spent .22 caliber bullet casing also on the driveway nearby. Police are calling the death suspicious but believe this was an isolated event with no identified threat to the community. While at the scene, police were alerted to the possible sighting of a suspect and began a search of the area. The case is in its earliest stages. The victim’s body will be brought to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. The names of the individuals involved will be released following further investigation and notification of relatives.
