Grantham Dump Truck Driver Charged with Negligent Homicide in Newport Pedestrian Death

 A New Hampshire dump truck driver is charged with negligent homicide after police say he hit and killed a pedestrian. Police in Newport, New Hampshire, say that on May 7 at about 12:40 p.m., Charles Deraway, 38, of Grantham, rolled through a stop sign on Central Street, hitting the victim who was in the crosswalk. Zachary Shepard, 34, of Newport, died of his injuries. Police interviewed multiple people who witnessed the crash, which was also captured on video. We were able to view multiple sources of video,” Newport Police Chief Alex Lee said. That video is part of an ongoing investigation. If convicted on the negligent homicide charge, Deraway faces up to seven years behind bars.
