Groton man was not freed during a Court hearing

Despite the testimony of a father willing to house a son accused of stabbing someone and a promise to take the son back to jail if he steps out of line, a Groton man was not freed during a Court hearing on Friday. Brandon Lackie, 36, appeared before Judge Michael Kainen for a weight of the evidence hearing, hoping to be let out of jail while a charge of felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is pending. He was arraigned on Jan. 7 and was ordered held without bail. Lackie is accused of stabbing John Faucette, 39, on the side of the road in Groton on Nov. 18. The hearing on Friday required Caledonia State’s Attorney Jessica Zaleski to establish for the judge that there is enough evidence to show Lackie committed the crime and that he should not be allowed to be free while the case is pending.
