Montreal Vermont highway hits a roadblock
A major development in a long-awaited infrastructure project between Vermont and Canada. A section of Autoroute 35, the long-planned highway linking Vermont to Montreal, has been cut from Quebec’s budget. The final stretch—just 2.7 miles from St. Armand to the border—has been scrapped in favor of other transportation priorities. A spokesperson says the existing road in that section is already the same width as the highway. Despite this setback, the rest of the project remains on schedule and is expected to be completed this fall. Once fully operational, the highway will shave about 30 minutes off travel time between Montreal and Vermont. Vermont commerce officials have called it a game-changer for trade and travel.
