Newport Man Held Without Bail After Domestic Incident Involving Firearm

In Newport, a 51-year-old man, Matthew Payne, was arrested after a domestic disturbance on Monday morning. Police say Payne choked a woman and accidentally discharged a firearm during the incident. The disturbance was reported around 8:00 AM on Monday, and officers arrived to find Payne exiting the home. He was taken into custody without incident. Police recovered a firearm at the scene and found a bullet hole in the ceiling. Payne was arraigned later that day and ordered held without bail.
