No injuries were reported in a two-car crash on February 20 in Fairlee that snapped a utility pole and left one of the vehicles totaled. Upon arrival, the Fairlee Fire Department closed the road on both sides due to the broken utility pole and lines down Route 5. An investigation by troopers from the St. Johnsbury barracks revealed that a 17 year old juvenile female from Fairlee, lost control of her 2009 Toyota Prius and struck the utility pole, causing it to break and fall. “Unfortunately, a vehicle that had been operated by Jeffrey Sharon, 62, of Bradford, was in the wrong spot at the wrong time, and the broken utility pole fell and damaged his vehicle,” troopers noted. The Prius was declared a total loss, and Sharon’s 2018 Ford Escape had driver-side damage. Neither operator reported any injuries and both vehicles were towed from the scene. Route 5 remained closed due to the broken utility pole and lines down. Green Mountain Power set a new pole and rehung the downed powerlines. With the help of Consolidated Communications and Eustis Cable, the remaining cables were rehung, and the roadway was reopened.
