Scott offered the comments during his weekly press conference

Gov. Phil Scott said the two fatal shootings that happened in recent days in the Northeast Kingdom were “obviously concerning.” Scott offered the comments during his weekly press conference Wednesday morning. Public Safety Commissioner Jennifer Morrison said, “We are quite confident they are not related.”  The state had received numerous pieces of information about the Wheelock shooting that claimed the life of Gunnar Watson, 27, at his home on Route 16 in Wheelock at about 6 a.m. Monday but Vermont State Police were still investigating and looking for more details. “We’ve put out a request asking for folks to tell us if they have trail cameras or home security systems that might shed any images or give us any information about that stretch of roadway on Route 16 in Wheelock,” said Morrison. The other shooting was Saturday evening in Newport Town, which claimed the life of Wilmer Rodriguez, 27, of Hartford, Conn. “The one, I believe, in Newport … is drug related,” commented Scott. VSP has asked anyone with information about either incident to call the VSP barracks in St. Johnsbury or Derby or to submit a tip at https://vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit .
