A Ukrainian man pleaded guilty on Thursday for his role in cybercrime schemes across the country, including here in Vermont. The Department of Justice says the man lead a group of hackers that infected thousands of computers with malicious software starting back in 2009. He was added to the FBI’s cyber most wanted list, but still was able to lead the charge on a type of ransomware that led to the October 2020 attack on the UVM Medical Center. That led to the loss of more than $65 million. The man faces up to 40 years in federal prison if convicted.
