Wildfire Smoke From Canada to Worsen Local Air Quality This Week
Air quality concerns are again on the horizon in our region as more smoke from wildfires in Canada is expected to blow into our region this week. There are more than 100 active wildfires in Canada categorized as out of control. A large majority are in remote areas in the northwestern part of the country. Some are being monitored and allowed to continue burning because there is no immediate threat, and officials say trying to contain all of them just isn’t possible. As those fires continue to burn, they continue to affect the air quality in our region. WCAX Chief Meteorologist Jess Langlois says our air quality on yesterday was better than it has been, but that likely won’t last.
