Wind Driven Brush Fire Burns 40 Acres on Stone Mountain in Winchester NH

Emergency crews in New Hampshire battled brush fires amid dry and windy conditions on Wednesday. Several fires broke out across the state. One in Winchester burned 40 acres on Stone Mountain. Winchester Fire Chief Barry Kellom says about 35 local departments responded to the fire Wednesday, which was difficult to fight because of the terrain and weather. “That’s what actually helped, you know, spread the fire was the wind yesterday, and obviously, not having enough personnel at the beginning stages of this to get around the fire,” the chief said. More than 100 firefighters were working to contain the fire at its peak. The chief says state forest rangers are now working to determine the fire’s cause.
