A Danville man missed his arraignment on a felony aggravated domestic assault charge

A Danville man missed his arraignment on a felony aggravated domestic assault charge because “he really needed some help,” his attorney told the court recently.

Cedric Curly, 30, had an arrest warrant issued for him when he failed to show up for the hearing in Court on April 29. His attorney, Jennifer Cleveland, told the court of his whereabouts on that day during a May 9 hearing that Curly did attend.

She said “He went to NVRH the night of this alleged assault event, and then a voluntary admission in Brattleboro for two weeks. “He got out of Brattleboro yesterday and came straight here…he really needed some help.” At his arraignment, Curly pleaded not guilty to the charge of first-degree aggravated domestic assault.

The alleged incident occurred on April 28. State Police arrived at the residence on Calkins Camp Road in Danville and spoke with Curly. The alleged victim told police that Curly had been drinking all day and usually drinks all day, every day. The alleged victim told police that on that evening, Curly put his forearm across her neck, choked her, and then proceeded to go outside and grab a gun from their car.  Then reportedly walked inside and put the gun to his head in the kitchen in front of their children. She told police that it was not the first time that Curly had been violent toward her. If convicted of the felony assault charge, Curley faces a possible sentence of 15 years in prison and $25,000 in fines.
