PCBs are located in the hallways, library, offices, kitchen, a stairwell and a 6th-grade classroom at the St. Johnsbury School. But the levels are low enough that the school doesn’t need to take any action. The PCB testing occurred on Aug. 14 by an environmental consultant who collected samples of indoor air that a laboratory processed. The results were then reviewed by the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation and the Vermont Department of Health. But no room or space has PCB levels at or above the lowest Vermont School Action Level, said Conroy in her report. “We are extremely fortunate that the PCB testing performed in mid-August found that the indoor air test results did not require the school to make any changes in occupancy for the rooms that were tested.”
